Let's Make Magnets with Artesprix Markers

Hello Creative! I’m Rita Barakat, a mixed media artist, and I love drawing, painting, color and anything creative! Today we are having a little fun, so let’s make magnets!

What are Artesprix Sublimation Markers?

Artesprix markers enable you to draw on regular printer paper and transfer it onto sublimation blank materials such as aprons, t-shirts, tumblers and more! Don't you love the idea that anything you can imagine can be transferred to just about any surface? Last time I shared that I love the idea of words that inspire me to be around in my space. Today I used four short different inspiration motivations to create our magnets. Let's make magnets!

Materials:

Step-by-Step Tutorial:

Step 1: Create a template with pencil for your project, pencil doesn’t transfer, and it will be less likely that it marks up your blank. Then color & design with Artesprix Markers. Don't worry about coloring a little outside of the lines - it makes it look more natural and handmade. Artesprix encourages it!

Pro Tip: All sublimation requires mirrored text which is important to remember when creating your design. You can use stencils, a tracing lighting pad, or a cutting machine to help you with this task.

Step 2: Cut out each design. The design should be in the center of the appropriate size paper so it is easier to tape. It should be bigger than your blank, don't trim it down.

Pro Tip: Turn on your Heat Press to 400℉ before you start designing.

Step 3: With the design on the table face up, secure the blank, white side face down with heat tape. Do not cover your design with tape. This is a great time to ensure your text is mirrored. I can’t tell you how many times I did all the things, took a peek and realized I forgot this step! Yikes!

Pro Tip: When using a heat press, only a couple pieces of tape is necessary. With very small or very large items you may need more. If using a home iron or crafting iron, more heat tape should be applied to prevent any shifting during the transfer process. Don’t you love that everyone can use Artesprix markers with a household iron!?

Step 4: Make a "sublimation sandwich". The Iron-on-Ink design should be secured face down on the top side of the sublimation sandwich. Note that your protective paper should be larger than your copy paper/design. Because these were so small I folded over the papers, while also taping in strategic places to secure the art.

Step 5: Double check Time, Temperature, and Pressure before doing your transfer. The design is secured face down on the top side of your sandwich, with 2 pieces of protective paper on the outside of your secured design. Once your heat press has reached 400. Set for 75 seconds and press.

Step 6: Peek test! Oh my goodness how exciting! I love to see that color when you peel it back! It is so much brighter than the markers before heating!

Step 7: Yay! I love it and they will look great on the fridge or magnet board! This would even be a great kid project! Then you can tell them, let’s make some magnets!
