Today, I’m going to share my November Blank of the Month. I love these ornaments. There is so much you can do with them. They are so much fun. At my house, we have two Christmas trees, one with ornaments that we have been given or have sentimental value, and one with ornaments that I make. Every year I make a few new ornaments for that tree. These are the ornaments that are going to grace that tree this year.
So, let’s get started!
What are Artesprix Sublimation Markers?
Artesprix Sublimation Markers are so much fun to use. They allow you to have a whole new crafting experience. They give you the ability to create sublimation designs without having to go out and spend lots of money on a printer, ink, and special paper. These markers take that special ink and make it easy for you to create sublimation designs on nothing more than regular copy paper.
Materials:
Blank of the month Metal Ornaments
Sublimation Markers
Protective Paper
Copy Paper
Heat Tape
Heat source (either a heat press or an iron)
We R Memory Keepers Marker Airbrush Version 1 (the new one does not work as well with Artesprix Markers)
.005 mil Mylar
Silhouette Cameo, Portrait, or Curio
Silhouette Pen Holder (either Type A or Type B depending on your machine)
Silhouette Autoblade
Step-by-Step Tutorial:
Step 1: The first thing I did was pick my design and create my stencil. I cut my own stencil on my Silhouette Cameo. You can read how I did that on my blog post Reusable Stencils on your Cameo.
Step 2: Once the stencil was cut, I used my Silhouette machine, pen holder with the large adapter, and a Artesprix Sublimation Markers sketch out the design on the copy paper. Step 3: When it is done sketching, take the page off the mat and start coloring away! This is always my favorite part.
Pro Tip: If your markers have not been used recently, they may need to be stored tip down up to 15 minutes before use.
Step 4: Next, grab one of your markers, the marker airbrush, and the stencil. Place the stencil on your design, put the marker in the airbrush, and start squeezing the airbrush. The airbrush uses puffs of air to spray ink onto the stencil.
Step 5: When I was happy with the coverage, I stopped airbrushing.
Step 6: Preheat your heat press to 400℉.
Step 7: Tape your design to your blank. Then grab a piece of protective paper big enough to cover your design, fold it in half and place your ornament with the copy paper in the middle, making a “sublimation sandwich”.
Step 8: When the heat press is at temperature, place your “sublimation sandwich” on the press with the copy paper side on top. Press for 75 seconds.
Step 9: Once the time is up, open the press. Before you remove the heat tape and take off the copy paper from the blank, you want to do a “peek test”. Pull up a little corner of your page and make sure the design transferred correctly. If it is, move your blank to a heat resistant surface. Metal is hot so I use heat gloves and place it on my Artesprix protective project mat.
Step 10: Once your ornament is cool, remove the paper and heat tape. Tie on your ribbon and you are done!
