Learn how to design a 2021 Happy New Year Champagne Artesprix Bag Tag! Champagne always makes the perfect hostess gift and I love making it special with a DIY bottle tag. It makes the gift more personal when you include a little extra something that you’ve made by hand.
Whether it’s for the hostess of a small gathering or you want to leave a special surprise for your neighbors, this is the perfect accessory for champagne bottles big and small!
These aren’t just for big champagne bottles though. This year I plan to surprise my neighbors with mini bottles of champagne, with cute bottle tags attached of course.
I mean, it doesn’t hurt that these tags are so fun (and easy) to make! As long as I’ve got my Artesprix Sublimation Markers handy, I can get creative and make as many as I need!
What are Artesprix Sublimation Markers?
Artesprix Sublimation Markers are the perfect markers for crafty people…and even those who aren’t so crafty. As long as you can color, you can create something amazing. Whether you’re designing a tumbler, picture frame, tote bag or even matching BFF t-shirts, these markers make it both easy and fun!
There’s nothing to it. Just draw or trace an image on plain copy paper, then use a heat source to transfer it to your blank. How simple is that?

You’ll also need blanks and you’ll find a great variety on the Artesprix site. This project calls for their plastic bag tags.
I just needed a few other supplies and I was ready to get crafty…

- Metal Bag Tag
- Plain Copy Paper
- Heat Tape
- Protective Paper
Tools:
- Heat Press, Dry Iron or Home Iron
- Protective Project Mat
- Lightbox, or window
- Pencil
How to make a Happy New Year DIY Bag Tag:
Step 1. The first thing you’ll want to do is trace your tag on a plain sheet of copy paper (don’t forget to trace the inside of the hole too). This will help you keep track of how much room you have to work with. After you trace, use a damp cloth or paper towel to wipe any pencil marks off the tag.
Step 2. Now you’ll need a design. If you enjoy drawing freehand, you can just draw a design of your own. For this project, I wanted something elegant so I went with a popping champagne bottle with gold/yellow and black as my main colors. Then I found a font that I liked and added “Happy New Year”.. Just remember that if you add words or letters, they’ll have to be mirrored or the print will come out backwards.
Step 3. Place your design on the lightbox, then lay the penciled outline face down over it. Trace and color your design. I always draw and color a little outside the lines, just to be sure I don’t end up with extra white space around the edges.
The colors may not seem super bright at first but don’t worry. That will all change once you add a little heat!
Step 4. One of the things I really like about Artesprix markers is that they’re chisel tipped. That means you can use the same marker whether you want thick lines for coloring large spaces or thin ones for details.
Step 5. This is a good time to set your heat source to 400. While it’s preheating, take your bag tag and place it over the design, so that the ink side is touching the tag. Use Artesprix heat tape to secure the tag in place.I also cut the excess paper, just to make it easier to work with.
Step 6. Once your heat source is ready, grab your Artesprix Protective Paper. This helps protect your heat plate from the dye as it transfers.
Step 7. Cut two pieces of the paper to make a sublimation sandwich. Think of the protective paper as your bread and the tag as your cheese. Place one piece of protective paper on bottom, add the bag tag with the ink side up, then place the second sheet of protective paper on top of that.
Step 8. Heat your bottle tag at 400 for 45 seconds, then place it on a protective project mat until it cools.
Step 9. You’ll be tempted to peek at your bottle tag right away but give it a minute or two…it’ll be hot (trust me, I learned the hard way!). Once it’s cool to the touch, you can peel back the paper.
Step 10. This is my absolute favorite part…the big reveal! Seeing the design for the first time is like opening a present! I love the transformation and seeing how the colors become so vibrant after the heat is added.
Step 11. This Champagne tag couldn’t have turned out more perfect. It’s such a fun way to dress up any hostess gift!
I may even make more tags and surprise my neighbors by attaching them to mini bottles of Champagne. That’s the beauty of this project…there are so many different things you can do!
