Hey everyone, Sarah here! I am so excited about this project. I had so much fun creating this headband. I used the new Artesprix ink refills and stamp pad to create this awesome project. I used the ink refills like a waterpaint. Read on for more!
What are Artesprix Products?
Artesprix has fantastic products that are easy to use to create permanent designs on sublimation blanks without the need for an expensive printer and ink. All you need is a heat source, plain paper, a sublimation blank, and your Artesprix products!
Materials:
April Blank of the Month Headband
Artesprix stamp pad ink refills (available May 1)
Copy Paper – I used mixed media paper for this project.
Tim Holtz stencil
Paintbrush and stencil brush
Heat press or iron
Step-by-Step Tutorial:
Step 1: Trace your blank onto plain copy paper using a pencil. I traced this blank twice, one right under the other so I knew how big to make my design to cover both sides of the headband.
Step 2: Put a few drops of each color on a piece of plastic and use a wet brush to pick up and blend the color.
Step 3: Paint your colors onto the page, making sure to cover the entire traced area, with sublimation you always color outside the lines.
Step 4: Once I was done painting, I used my stencil and stencil brush to add a pattern to my paper.
Step 5: Heat your press to 400°F and set the timer for 45 seconds.
Step 6: Position your blank on the design and tape it in place. I folded my page over the blank so both sides are covered.
Step 7: Once it’s taped in place, create your "sublimation sandwich". A sublimation sandwich is made up of a layer of protective paper, your blank with the design secured to it, and another piece of protective paper.
Step 8: Place the sublimation sandwich on your press. Once your heat source reaches temperature, press your zip case for 45 seconds. I actually pressed one side then flipped my project over and pressed the other side. Once it is pressed, do a peek test to make sure you got a good transfer.
Step 9: If you got a good transfer, use heat gloves to move the headband to a heat resistant surface. I use my Artesprix Protective Project mat. Once cooled enough to touch, remove the copy paper and heat tape.
