Dreamy May Blank of the Month Artesprix Pillow Case

Hello all, it's Lori here, back for another Design Team Term. I am so happy to be featured on the website for the next 6 months and continue to bring you all Iron-on-Ink inspiration! For this project, we will be personalizing the Blank of the Month Pillow Case. I went for a “Dreamy” watercolor style for my Sublimation Pillow Case that features a Dragonfly stamp as the focal point. This blank is only available for the month of May so don't wait to grab yours if you'd like to try this project!

What is Sublimation Iron-on-Ink?
It is an interesting and fun product that alows you to create a design on standard copy paper that can then be heat transferred onto surfaces (must have polyester in it or have a polyester coating). Once the project is transferred to the blank, it is lifetime permanent. Before Artesprix, you would need a fancy printer to experience this level of personalization, but not anymore!

Supplies:
Sublimation Stamp Pad –Black
Sublimation Refill Ink - Pink, Green , Blue
Protective Project Mat
Pillow Case
Heat tape
 Protective paper

Plaint Copy Paper
Emerald Creek - Lori’s Cards and Creations Sublimation Stamps, Life Quotes & Be You Dragonfly
Step-by-Step Tutorial:
Step 1: Decide how big you want your design to be. I knew I wanted to do a design across the end of the Pillow Case which is 20.5" long. But my heat press is only 12" long at its widest so I will just plan on using the majority of a piece of copy paper for my transfer.

Step 2: Place a dot of Stamp Refill ink on to a craft mat (blue, green, and purple), then spray with water to dilute ink.

Step 3: Use a paint brush to apply ink to the paper, making three wavy, overlapping lines of ink.

Step 4: Spray ink lines with water and allow the ink to move and blend a little bit. Allow to dry.
Optional: Add splatters of ink to finished background.

Step 5: Stamp Be You Dragonfly with Black Sublimation Stamp ink.

Step 6: Use Emerlad Creek's special line of Sublimation Stamps to stamp the sentiment "Dream" on the paper.
Step 7: Place finished design onto Pillow Case and secure with heat resistant tape.

Step 8: Make a "Sublimation Sandwich" by placing the Pillow Case between two pieces of protective paper bigger than your heat source.
Pro Tip: Place a third piece of protective paper in between your Pillow Case to ensure your design does not transfer through to the other side. If your protective paper does not have any ink on it after transfer, it can be reused.

Step 9: Transfer for 45 seconds at 400℉ with light to medium pressure. Enough pressure to transfer, but not too much to cause press lines.

Step 10: After heat set, take-a-peek at the design to ensure transfer was successful (do not remove tape until transfer is confirmed). Re-heat if needed.

Step 11: Remove tape & paper to reveal the transferred design.

I love the way this turned out. You could repeat this process on the opposite end, or the opposite side, there is a lot of room for creativity on this blank. I think it would be fun to do a Pillow Case project with my grandkids and they can use it the next time they sleepover. They would get a kick out of getting their very own personalized pillow case. Don't forget, it only available in the Artesprix Shop this month, so don't wait to grab yours. Please post a picture of your Iron-on-Ink projects to the Artesprix Facebook Group , we would love to see them!
Happy Day!

  • This is so pretty. The painting process by itself has me intrigued.
