Artesprix Happy Spring Kitchen Towel

Hello all, Lori here, with a new Artesprix Sublimation project.  This project will show how easy it is to transfer an image onto a soft surface, like a  Sublimation ready Kitchen Towel.   Use your card making skills to stamp, blend, and color your way to Sublimation happiness!  Check out the step by step instructions as well as the Quick Tips Mixed Media video below to find out how I made this Happy Spring Kitchen Towel.

What is Sublimation Iron-on-Ink?
It is an interesting and fun product that allows you to create a design on standard copy paper that can then be heat transferred onto surfaces (must have polyester in it or have a polyester coating). Once the project is transferred to the blank, it is lifetime permanent. Before Artesprix, you would need a fancy printer to experience this level of personalization, but not anymore!

Step-by-Step Tutorial:
Step 1: Normally we trace our blank with a pencil, but in this case we will just ensure our design will fit appropriately on our Kitchen Towel where we want it within our piece of copy paper.

Step 2: Secure stencil to copy paper with removable tape.
Step 3: Using a blending tool and foam to sponge on three different colors of Sublimation stamp ink over stencil, I chose purple, green, and blue.

Pro Tip: It is suggested to have a separate set of blending tools dedicated to your sublimation inks.

Step 4: Water down a dab of Black Sublimation Acrylic paint with water, then splatter paper using a fan brush.

Step 5: Stamp the Be You Dragonfly and Sublimation phrase from Emerald Creek with Black Sublimation Stamp ink.

Pro Tip #2: The sentiment stamp is specifically designed for sublimation stamp projects. The words on the paper need to be reversed, check out the Artesprix & Emerald Creek Shops for more Sublimation Text Stamps.

Step 7: Tear edges around stamped design to prevent press lines in your towel.

Step 8: We are ready to transfer! Secure stamped design (face down) onto Kitchen Towel with heat tape where desired.
Step 9: Make a "Sublimation Sandwich" by placing the Kitchen Towel between two pieces of protective paper. This will protect your work surfaces and heat platen from unwanted ink.

Step 10: Heat set using appropriate settings for the blank, the Kitchen Towel calls for 60 seconds at 380℉ with medium pressure.

Step 11: After heat set, conduct a "peek test" to ensure transfer was successful, do not remove tape until transfer confirmed, this way you can re-heat if necessary.

Step 12: Remove paper to reveal transferred design.

I hope this project has demonstrated how quick and easy it is to use a few basic stamping techniques with Artesprix Sublimation Stamps, Markers and Acrylic Paint to make wonderful sublimation creations. These Kitchen Towels make a great housewarming gift or hostess gift, with lots of room to personalize. I hope you will try them from the Artesprix Shop!
Stamping and Sublimation are a perfect fit! Happy Day!
